"What are you doing?" his usual condescending voice boomed. I nervously giggled and explained, "Getting water. Was that you? That noise I heard?" There was another crash in Paul's room.
We both stopped, and faced the back of the apartment. "You mean that noise?" Daniel quietly replied. I inched toward Paul's room. "Paul," I called as I cracked open the door. "Paul?" I moved into the dark space, Daniel lurking behind me. We climbed the stairs only to see two big thugs.
They wore only black. Their skin was a dark golden color, their features were dark- eyes, hair, face, they were strong. They probably would've been considered attractive if they weren't stealing my roommate's things.
"What are you doing?" I sputtered out. They turned to me, I realized I shouldn't have said anything. I should have stayed in my bed. I should have been sleeping. I ran. I ran to my bed but barely made it to the steps. The dark skinned man clutched my arm. He tugged me backwards. When his grip loosened I took off again.
I looked over my shoulder, Daniel wasn't in sight. In the apartment was just me and the hoodlums. My feet carried me to my room where another pair of dark, muscular, men were gathering my things.

I stopped dead in my tracks. Watching them pack up my life, holding my valuables in their arms. My eyes darted to my window- which looked directly into my neighbor's. There, on my neighbor's bed, were five people. People I've seen before. The guy I've seen get coffee. The man I say 'good-morning' to on Wednesdays. The girl my neighbor is sleeping with, and my two neighbors. I made eye contact with the girl, 'help me' I mouthed. She shook her head violently, 'no.'
I was stunned "What!?" I howl. This is when the dark man noticed me. He came up to me at full force, ready to tackle me, I put my hand up. "Hold on, what?" I forgot about the burly man in my room, and I stomp toward the window, "WHAT? Call the cops, I'm being robbed? Can't you see I'm being robbed?" The girl scribbles on a pad of paper, in bright colors I read the word, 'sorry' and she shrugged.
I am enraged. "Can you believe that?" I turned to the robber. He shoved me aside and grabbed my television. The two men left. I stood in my naked room. Just my posters and doodles hang on the wall. My desk drawers are strewn around the room. I glanced out the window, at the same moment I caught the shade closing.
I felt a warmth through my shirt, a hand on my shoulder. I turned to face the person. It was one of the dark men, in his other hand he held out my camera. Snapped a shot, I was blinded by the light. He handed it to me, "Don't forget to lock your window the next time." He said.
He hugged me, then walked away.
I woke up.
